Student Stories

Find out how transferring to Rollins opened up life-changing opportunities for Hally, Sujan, and Steve. How will you make your mark at Rollins?

The National Champion
Hally Leadbetter ’16

Our winning combination of world-class academics and championship athletics drew Hally Leadbetter ’16 to Rollins from the University of Arkansas. The switch opened life-changing opportunities that advanced her game and accelerated her career. In 2016, Leadbetter earned All-American honors and led the women’s golf team to a sixth national title. Her grades contributed to a 30th straight term in which Rollins student-athletes achieved a combined GPA over 3.0. A communication studies major, Leadbetter also completed an internship as an editor at New York-based Excelle Sports.

The Entrepreneur
Sujan Mohinani ’18

The personal attention you receive as a Rollins student begins long before you’re actually a student. Just ask Sujan Mohinani ’18. An international transfer student from Hong Kong, Mohinani was drawn to Rollins by its intimate, challenging learning environment and strong international business and computer science progams. He knew he had found the perfect fit because of the diligent attention he received from counselors across campus. As a Rollins student, Mohinani is embracing the one-on-one support of our faculty as he develops a socially conscious business venture in West Africa.

The Veteran
Steve Escobar ’19

One of Steve Escobar ’19's best friends graduated from Rollins in 2015, and he had visited after finishing his four-year hitch with the Marines. So he already loved the school, the setting, the people, and when he heard about the Yellow Ribbon program that would supplement his veterans’ educational benefits, he applied. He kept hoping while taking a few courses at Wake Technical Community College back home.

"All summer, I was just waiting for the approval to come," Escobar says. "As soon as it happened, I said, 'I’m going to Rollins!'"
