An Engaged Campus

“An engaged campus is one that consciously commits to reinvigorating the democratic spirit and community engagement in all aspects of its campus life: students, faculty, staff, and the institution itself. The engaged campus recognizes that knowledge cannot be separated from the purposes to which it is directed. The engaged campus is not just located within a community, it is intimately connected to the public purposes and aspirations of community life itself. The engaged campus is unable to separate its unique responsibility for the development of knowledge from the role of knowledge in a democratic society to form the basis for social progress and human equality.”  — Campus Compact

Mission Statement:  To inspire action and cultivate positive social change through leadership development and community engagement.
Vision Statement:  To foster community dedicated to educating and empowering global citizens, responsible leaders, and lifelong learners.

A Note to Our Community:

Without question, we are deeply saddened and disturbed by the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and other Black lives across the country. We acknowledge and stand with the individuals using their voices, and we believe in creating a community where everyone feels at home, especially people of color.

As a community, it's clear there is vital work to do.
We recognize that we haven’t always been a part of the solution. We recognize that our history, like much of American education, is rooted in institutionalized racism.

And we’re committing to doing better.

We are here to learn, to listen, to convene, to create space for all voices to be heard, and to be part of solutions.

Statements made on tragic occasions do not change the world, education does, and that is our core purpose. We are committed to supporting students of color, and we’re developing different learning spaces for our community members.

If community partners are interested in having a learning space of their own, we’re happy to create virtual space for community leaders to address racism and the other issues that activists are drawing attention to locally and all over the United States.

Our office would like to affirm that we stand in solidarity with our students, colleagues, and community members of color. We hear you and we commit to learning more alongside the rest of the Rollins community so that we may turn our knowledge into action. Difficult conversations lie ahead, but we look forward to sharing in dialogue and developing more actionable steps in the weeks and months to come.
