What: Rollins’ Winter Park Institute hosts The Wall Street Journal theater critic and author Terry Teachout as he presents “Confessions of a Critic.” This event is free and open to the public.

Background: Terry Teachout is the drama critic for The Wall Street Journal, the chief culture critic of “Commentary,” and the author of “Sightings,” a biweekly column for the Saturday Journal about the arts in America. He also writes about the arts for National Review and other magazines, as well as on his blog, “About Last Night.”
His most recent books are All in the Dances: A Brief Life of George Balanchine and A Terry Teachout Reader. He recently finished writing Pops: The Life of Louis Armstrong, which will be published in the fall of 2009 by Harcourt. Teachout is collaborating with Paul Moravec on The Letter, an operatic version of Somerset Maugham’s play that will be produced by Santa Fe Opera in the summer of 2009. He was appointed to the National Council on the Arts by President George W. Bush in 2004.
