Rollins College Appoints Lauren Hames Director of Public Relations & Communications

Winter Park, Fla. (June 3, 2009) … Lauren Hames has been appointed Director of Public Relations & Communications for Rollins College.  She has more than nine years of experience in public relations, public information, media relations, internal communications, crisis communications and new media.  As director of public relations and communications, Hames assists with all public relations matters as well as issues management and crisis communications. She specializes in emerging trends in social media and will manage the College's online news room (the Rollins News Center) and its first-ever Student News Bureau.  She is helping Rollins maximize and organize its online presence and will oversee the College’s social media landing page and implement additional online and new media initiatives. 

“Lauren brings a breadth of experience in both traditional public relations strategies and new media that will assist us in this ever evolving communication environment,” said Ann Marie Varga, assistant vice president of public relations and communications.

Prior to joining Rollins College, Hames worked at a public relations agency in Chicago garnering local and national coverage for her clients in the education, healthcare and non-profit industries. A Central Florida native, Lauren also previously worked in City government for Orlando mayors Buddy Dyer and Glenda Hood, communicating city initiatives internally and externally, and for Maitland-based Dairy Farmers, Inc.

She received a bachelor’s degree in public relations, with a minor in history, as well as a master’s in mass communication from the University of Florida (UF).
