Winter Park, Fla. (July 15, 2009) –In the name of charity and friendly competition, Rollins’ beloved mascot, Tommy the Tar, will be leaving the Winter Park campus and joining the ranks of such big-name mascots as the Orlando Magic’s Stuff the Magic Dragon and the University of Florida’s Albert E. and Alberta Gator.
Featuring over 30 mascots from collegiate and professional sports teams across the country, the 17th Annual Celebrity Mascot Games will take place July 16-18th. The mascots will divide into three teams and compete against one another during the three shows taking place at the Amway Arena and Stetson University.
Proceeds from the Celebrity Mascot Games benefit New Hope for Kids, an Orlando based not-for-profit organization that grants wishes to children under the age of 18 who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Since its inception, New Hope has granted more than 3,000 wishes, focusing on the children of Central Florida. This event has raised nearly $250,000 for New Hope for Kids since the first Mascot Games in 1992.
