Rollins Dance Marathon Hosts Little Lives Picnic

October 30, 2009

LLPBehind the Cornell Fine Arts Museum on October 23, the Dance Marathon executive board hosted a picnic for the Rollins community to get to know the children they help through participating in Dance Marathon. On the sunny afternoon, picnic blankets were spread across the lawn, and on top of the tables sat pottery and canvases for the children to paint.

“These types of events put a face on the kids who are helped by Children’s Miracle Network,” said Megan Lanier, EAMBA and Director of Rollins 2009 Dance Marathon. “Hearing about it isn’t the same as seeing it. These children really struggle and this is the least we can do. Dance Marathon is for everyone and supports an amazing cause.”

The clay was donated by Clay House for the children to paint, and their painted pottery and canvases will be for sale starting October 30th.

The art sale is one of the events that are being held to support Dance Marathon, which will culminate with a 12-hour marathon to be held this year on Saturday, November 14.  Now in its third year, Dance Marathon is the largest and most successful student-run philanthropy at Rollins College. To date, Rollins' Dance Marathon has raised more than $70,000 and every penny raised goes directly to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando and the Shand’s Children’s Hospital at the University of Florida.
