Dance Marathon Auction Kicks Up the Spirit

November 09, 2009

DMA student auctioneer, Danny Travis (Class of 2010), spoke boisterously into a microphone to Rollins students late at night on November 4 at O’Boys Bar-B-Q, catching the crowd’s excitement to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network.

Rollins Dance Marathon executive board hosted an Auction at O’Boys to raise money for the third annual Dance Marathon. Each Dance Marathon team sponsored a prize. The money raised by each date went directly toward the team’s goal, and thus to the Children’s Miracle Network. Also, each team that participated earned Spirit Points for their team.

The various gift certificates were from restaurants like Kobe’s Japanese Steakhouse, The Cheesecake Factory, an IMAX movie, and the Children’s Miracle Network Classic. The event raised nearly $950 with 16 prizes auctioned.

Now in its third year, Dance Marathon is the largest and most successful student-run philanthropy at Rollins College. Each fall, a variety of events are held to support Dance Marathon culminating with a 12-hour marathon, which will be held this year on Saturday, November 14.  To date, Rollins' Dance Marathon has raised more than $70,000 and every penny raised goes directly to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando and the Shand’s Children’s Hospital at the University of Florida.

Volunteers are needed for the upcoming  Dance Marathon, contact Megan Lanier at mlanier@rollins.edu.
