Programming

The Living Learning Communities staff works hard to

create amazing programs for our students.

Here is information about our signature programs!

Fall

Battle of the Halls

Every first year hall is battling for the coveted title of "Best First Year Hall On Campus."  Points are awarded through several battles, including a field day and a can collection, and through attendance at programs throughout the fall semester.

Trail Mixer with Dr. Barreneche

It is important that all residents recognize Dr. Barreneche as our Faculty in Residence.  One of the first opportunities they have to interact with him is through our Open House Trail Mixer.  All LLC students are invited to attend, create their own trail mix, mingle with their fellow residents, and chat with Dr. Barreneche.

LLC Sponsored Sporting Events

Each year we sponsor several sporting events throughout the year in order to share our school spirit and support our athletes!  RAs pass out free popcorn, cotton candy, and sno-cones to anyone in attendance!  The floor with the most residents present are rewarded!

Tour de 5 Minute Difference

It only takes a few minutes to make a huge difference!  In all of our first year halls, tables are set up for students to walk by and donate a few minutes of their time to learn about service opportunities or participate in small activities like making sock puppets for sick children and signing cards for soldiers or the elderly.  Students then tour to all the halls with their RA in order to enjoy every "5 Minute Difference."

Rollins Underground

The Office of Residential Life, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Office of Community Engagement, the Office of Student Success, and the Office of Student Involvement & Leadership collaborate to bring the Rollins Underground to campus. This interactive event focuses on systems of privilege that may lead to oppression. Students, faculty and staff will take tours in small groups and encounter experiences that will allow them to learn more about privilege and ways they can advocate for underrepresented groups on and off campus.

Spring

Welcome Back BBQ

Dr. Barreneche, the Ward Hall Faculty in Residence, invites all the LLC residents to join him in celebrating the beginning of the spring semester. He graciously cooks burgers and hot dogs on one of our grills!

Epcot Leadership Day

Rollins has developed a wonderful relationship with Disney.  In partnership with the Disney Internships and Programs Service Center, we are able to bring a bus load of Rollins students to Epcot!  Rollins students have the opportunity to learn more about Disney-style leadership and network with current interns.

Professing Excellence

Rollins is well-known for the close and meaningful relationships that professors develop with their students. In order to recognize the professors who go above and beyond their job description, the Office of Residential Life developed a special event called Professing Excellence. Students are encouraged to nominate their favorite professors for the prestigious Professing Excellence Award.  All nominated professors are invited to a celebration dinner in their honor in the company of the Provost, Dean of Faculty, Dean of Student Affairs, Director of Residential Life, faculty members, and other notable guests.

Academic Excellence

The Rollins Living Learning Communities strongly support the academic growth of their residents! Residents who have a GPA over 3.75 are celebrated with a certificate, a special gift, and cupcakes!

Service Trips

Not only is service an important part of the LLC experience, it is a value that Rollins as a whole embraces.  In partnership with the Office of Community Engagement, we try to provide opportunities to service our community.  One example is Habitat for Humanity.  Students who participated were able to work on a Habitat for Humanity house being constructed right here in Winter Park!

LLC Progressive Dinner

The Living Learning Communities sponsors a progressive dinner through their homes: Ward Hall, Rex Beach Hall, and McKean Halls. The guests have a great night of mixing and mingling with residents from other buildings while enjoying a tasty dinner.
