Together Again:
Local and Global Connections
How do we define togetherness in an era characterized by the use of technology and social media platforms? How do they shape the ways in which we relate to each other? When considering these questions, we may reflect on what brings us together both locally and globally. After several years of disruption and dislocation, many are now redefining and reestablishing relationships, prioritizing what matters and affirming the value of family, friends, and neighbors. Each of the works in the exhibition addresses the notion of community from the artist’s unique perspective. As a group, they encourage visitors to find points of connection that reinforce belonging and unity.
In dialogue with the Greater Orlando area’s library 2023 summer reading theme, All Together Now, this exhibition explores a series of works from the museum’s collection that address local and global connections. Featuring works by Allen Fireall, Meschac Gaba, Susan Knox, Pedro Reyes, and Yinka Shonibare, Togher Again invites viewers to reflect on our connections to those closest to us, and in turn, on finding our place in the global community.
