Robbery – Sutton Place
November 18, 2024
On November 17, 2024, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department was alerted to a robbery that took place on the 5th floor of Sutton Place Apartments. A review of CCTV footage revealed four male suspects gaining entry to Sutton Place after being let in by a resident exiting the building. These individuals were known acquaintances of the victim but were not affiliated with Rollins College.
The suspects proceeded to the victim's room, where they stole multiple personal items. The victim’s roommate, who was not present at the time, also had belongings taken. The suspects and their vehicle were captured on CCTV, and all relevant evidence has been forwarded to the Winter Park Police Department. Campus Safety is working closely with law enforcement as part of the ongoing investigation and in alignment with college safety practices.
At this time, there is no evidence suggesting an ongoing threat to the campus community. However, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant and take precautions. Please be cautious of individuals attempting to gain entry into buildings, and always ensure that doors are securely locked to prevent unauthorized access. Even if you do not feel comfortable in stopping access or saying something in the moment, immediately contact Campus Safety with a description of the individuals to allow us to follow up. Follow the guidance – see something, say something, to ensure the safety of everyone in the building.
If you have any additional information that might assist Winter Park Police in their investigation, please contact them at 407-644-1313 or contact the Rollins College Campus Safety Department at 407/646-2999 (X:2999) or via email at campussafety@rollins.edu.
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (the “Clery Act”), 20 U.S.C. 1092 (f), Rollins College issues timely notices to notify the campus community of Clery Act crimes or other serious incidents that the College determines to represent a serious and ongoing threat to the campus. The College may distribute timely notices using a variety of means, including emails, text messages, flyers, and website announcements posted on the Campus Safety website Timely Notification

Burglary, Forcible Entry
August 10, 2023
At 6:25 AM on August 10, 2023, the Campus Safety Department received a report regarding a forcible entry and burglary incident at the enclosed cart storage within the Rollins Garage. Subsequent investigation, including a thorough review of CCTV footage, revealed that an unknown male subject illicitly entered the area at 1:05 AM on the same day. The individual accomplished this by cutting a hole in the chain-link fence, allowing him unauthorized access.
Once inside, he proceeded to remove a variety of lawn equipment, collectively valued at more than $660. The individual left the scene on his bicycle from the corner of Ollie Avenue and Tiedtke Way. This incident appears to be an opportunistic crime, given the circumstances. To address this matter effectively, Campus Safety is actively collaborating with the Winter Park Police Department to expedite the identification of the involved individual and evaluating additional security-related hardware. Our actions align closely with our institutional protocols, ensuring the holistic safety of the campus community.
It is important to emphasize that, at present, there is no ongoing threat to members of the campus community as this was a property crime. Rest assured; appropriate measures are being taken to mitigate any potential risks. Campus Safety strongly urges the community to report anything that you perceive to be suspicious activity immediately; see something, say something. Please secure spaces that are unoccupied to reduce the risk of someone taking advantage of a vulnerable situation. Locking your door when away from your room or while you are sleeping will help reduce the risk of a variety of crimes from taking place. While the campus is not fully populated, it is especially important to take extra precautions and take note of situations that seem odd or out of the ordinary. Do not hesitate to contact Campus Safety for assistance or to ensure that the space is secured.
If you have any additional information, please contact the Rollins College Campus Safety Department at 407/646-2999 (X:2999) or via email at campussafety@rollins.edu.

Timely Notification
Sexual Assault – Non-Consensual Sexual Contact, Fondling
September 1, 2022
On August 30, 2022, the Office of Title IX received a report of non-consensual sexual contact in the form of unwanted touching or fondling that occurred at approximately 4 pm inside of Ward Hall. It was reported that a Rollins student, while walking up the stairs, had an unknown male subject touch them without their consent. Campus Safety was able to piece this information together with a trespassing case that occurred during the same time period, and the student positively identified the same individual as the one involved in the case. Reporting options have been shared with the student, and we are following institutional policies to ensure overall safety to campus. The reporting party is being provided the appropriate level of care and resources and is connected with the proper offices on campus.
Based upon footage from the CCTV system and eye-witness accounts, an unaffiliated male subject gained access to Ward Hall several times during a 30-minute time period when residents either held the door open or he was allowed to piggy-back into the building. Once inside the building, he stayed in common areas but was seen trying to open students’ doors that were locked. Ultimately residents noticed his behavior and attempted to confront the subject while also calling for Campus Safety to assist. After realizing that he was being looked for, the subject hastily left the building and returned to his vehicle, which was parked behind Olin Library. Campus Safety attempted to approach the subject twice while on campus, each time he recklessly sped off campus, drove over curbs, and almost caused accidents on Fairbanks Ave. Winter Park Police were notified of the trespassing and provided information pertaining to the subject’s car.
The subject is described as a white male, early 20s in age, approximately 5’ 10”, with black hair pulled back in a ponytail, patchy facial hair, dark rimmed glasses, wearing a light black sweater over a t-shirt with jeans and black shoes. He was driving a 2008, gray, Acura MDX sports utility vehicle. To aid the campus community, photos of the subject have been attached to this notification. If you have any additional information pertaining to this case or see this subject on campus, please contact us at 407-646-2999 or campussafety@rollins.edu or Winter Park Police Department at 407-644-1313. It is important to note that when living in a communal environment, safety is a shared responsibility. If you do not recognize a person attempting to access your building or if you feel that someone’s behavior is suspicious, please take action by either asking the person who they are and/or reporting the behavior to a faculty member, staff member, or Campus Safety. Even in safe communities such as our campus and the City of Winter Park, incidents can and do happen.
Sexual violence can happen to anyone, and it is not the only crime that can occur on a college campus. College students have the opportunity to look out for their friends, speak up about sexual violence, and take steps to increase personal safety. Learn more about safety for students from RAINN, including what consent looks like, staying safe on campus, and active bystander intervention. It is important to remember that if you are sexually assaulted it is not your fault – help and support are available. If you or a friend has experienced sexual assault, we encourage you to seek help and report.

Burglary - unlawful entry, no force
Case # 22-217
May 9, 2022
At 5:09 PM on May 8, 2022, the Campus Safety Department received a report that an unlawful entry, no-force burglary occurred at the Sutton Apartments. It was reported that an individual gained entry into two different unlocked rooms inside of an apartment in the Sutton Place Apartments. Subsequently, it was discovered that items were missing from these spaces. The residents do not wish to file a report with the Winter Park Police Department at this time. Due to the nature of the circumstance, it is likely that this is a crime of opportunity that was perpetrated by someone walking through the building. Campus Safety has identified the individual and we are following institutional policies to ensure the overall safety of the campus. At this time, there is no ongoing threat to the campus community.

Hate Crime – In the form of Vandalism based on Sexual Orientation
Case #21-329
September 30, 2021
At approximately 7:00 AM on September 30, 2021, a report of bias/hate-based vandalism was reported to Campus Safety by a staff member. Upon initial investigation, we discovered there were derogatory comments based on sexual orientation written on a wall in the dugout of the Rollins Softball Stadium. The vandalism was documented and immediately removed. It is unknown when the vandalism occurred or who may be responsible. At this time, Campus Safety is investigating this vandalism.
All appropriate notifications have been made across campus. Bias/hate-based crimes of any magnitude have a disparate impact on individuals and our community as a whole. The implied message of this particular incident is hurtful and is in direct opposition to our mission of global citizenship and responsible leadership. We hope that sharing incidents like this allow for a constructive dialogue that promotes a stronger more inclusive community.
Campus Safety strongly urges the community to report anything that you perceive to be suspicious activity immediately; see something, say something. Burglary - unlawful entry, no force
Case # 21-218
August 13, 2021
At 10:04 AM on August 13, 2021, the Campus Safety Department received a report that an unlawful entry, no-force burglary, occurred in Cornell Social Sciences building. The burglary occurred between June 07, 2021, and August 13, 2021. It was reported that a faculty member had left a Laptop on their desk, before leaving for summer break. It is unclear whether or not the faculty office door was locked. The faculty member does not wish to file a report with the Winter Park Police Department at this time. Due to the nature of the circumstance, it is likely that this is a crime of opportunity that was perpetrated by someone walking through that building. At this time no other information is known.
Do not hesitate to contact Campus Safety for assistance or to ensure that space is secured.
If you have any additional information that might assist Winter Park Police in their investigation, please contact them at 407-644-1313 or contact the Rollins College Campus Safety Department at 407/646-2999 (X:2999) or via email at campussafety@rollins.edu.

Hate Crime – Destruction, Damage, or Vandalism of Property Based on Identity or Race
Case #21-128
April 11th, 2021
In the very early morning hours, on April 11, 2021, an incident was reported to Campus Safety by residents of Strong Hall where their personal property was destroyed, damaged, or vandalized. Upon initial investigation, it was learned that an unknown person began banging on hallway walls, in an attempt to disrupt those residents in the area, and destroyed posters attached to residents’ doors that supported the African American and LGBTQ+ communities. Based upon the circumstances surrounding the case, we have classified this incident as a hate crime in the form of destruction, damage, or vandalism of property based on identity and race. At this time, Campus Safety is investigating and working with on-campus partners in Student Affairs to identify the responsible party.
All appropriate notifications have been made across campus to facilitate support for those immediately impacted.
Hate Crime – In the form of Intimidation based on Race

March 22, 2021
On March 21, 2021, a report of bias/hate-based intimidation was reported to Campus Safety by members of the Student Affairs team as they worked with a student and their family. We learned that an African American student residing in Strong Hall was in their room on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at approximately 1015pm when they heard footsteps walking down their hallway. At approximately the same time as the footsteps were outside of the students’ room, a male voice stated, “I hate ni**as”. Based upon the circumstances surrounding the case, we have classified this incident as a hate crime in the form of intimidation based on race. At this time, Campus Safety is investigating and working with on-campus partners in Residential Life and the Center for Inclusion and Campus Involvement to identify the responsible party.
