How to Schedule an Appointment

Appointments

We offer both in-person tutoring appointments and virtual, synchronous appointments (via WebEx).
We use EAB Navigate for appointment scheduling and reporting. See a walkthrough of the scheduling process here (or above).
Appointments must be made at least 18 hours in advance. If you cannot find an appointment at a time that works for you, you can use one of our drop-in times, or click "request an appointment" under the schedule of times in EAB and we will work with our tutors to accommodate your schedule as best we can.
The minimum appointment time for content tutoring is 30 minutes. The minimum appointment time for a writing consultation is 45 minutes. 

In-Person Appointments
  • At the time of your appointment, you can find your tutor in the Tutoring & Writing Center on the 2nd (main) floor of Olin Library. When you come in through the main entrance to the building, turn left past the circulation desk and walk all the way to the end of the hallway. Turn right into the Lakeview Lounge area to find your tutor (you can find your tutor's name in your appointment confirmation email).
  • We have set up the TWC space to maximize physical distance and safety; please do not move the furniture. If you would be more comfortable relocating outside, to elsewhere in Olin Library, or to another academic building such as Bush or Kathleen W. Rollins Hall, you may do so after meeting up with your tutor in the TWC.
  • In accordance with College-wide policies and the Tars Promisetutors and students MUST wear face masks over their noses and mouths for the entirety of the session. Failure to adhere to covid-related safety protocols may result in you being limited to virtual tutoring only. 
Virtual Appointments
  • At the time of your appointment, open WebEx and enter the URL for your tutor's room (the link should be in your appointment confirmation and under "appointment details" in EAB Navigate). 
  • Before your session begins, please have any links or files ready that you'd like to share with your tutor.
  • If your bandwidth capacity allows, please use your video and audio. Using all the communication functions of WebEx will help make your session as productive as possible. If your internet connection does not support video conferencing, you can still use your audio or "call in" to the meeting on your phone.

 

Drop-In Tutoring (Virtual)

If making an appointment ahead of time doesn't work with your schedule, you might consider using our open, drop-in hours––no appointment needed! Think of these like virtual office hours with a peer tutor.

For fall 2020, all of our drop-in hours will be conducted virtually (via WebEx). Please click on the tutor's name for their WebEx link.

Some things to keep in mind: 
  • If a tutor is already meeting with someone during their drop-in hours, you may need to wait for a few minutes in their WebEx "lobby." If they expect an extended delay, the tutor will email you with an . 
  • A tutor is not permitted to extend their drop-in time, but if you still need assistance at the end of their drop-in hours they can offer you information on how to schedule an appointment or direct you to additional drop-in hours.

Graduate Students

Graduate students do not automatically have login access to EAB Navigate. However, you can contact our Associate Coordinator, Mistie Watkins (mwollard@rollins.edu) to gain access. Or, you can email one of our graduate tutors or consultants directly to schedule an appointment.
(Please note: undergraduate students are NOT permitted to schedule appointments via email.)

What to Expect

We know it can be intimidating to ask for help, particularly if you've never met with a peer tutor before. Whether you visit for a writing consultation or for content tutoring, our peer tutors are dedicated to helping you learn and achieve your academic goals. 

At the start of your appointment or when you attend drop-in hours, you and the tutor will work together to set an agenda for the session. It is helpful if you have a goal or set of questions that you'd like to discuss with, but even if you don't know where to begin, your tutor can still help! During your session, the tutor will ask questions, offer options and suggestions, and connect you to other helpful resources. In the last 5 minutes or so, your tutor will discuss some concrete next steps that you can take to work toward your goals. After your session, you can log in to EAB Navigate and click on the "reports" tab to see notes about your session. You'll also receive an email asking you to complete a brief survey about your tutoring experience––this is a great way to let us know what's working for you or what you'd like to see more of from us!
