New RMA Facility
Envisioning the Future
In a community offering many cultural experiences, the Rollins Museum of Art remains unique in the breadth of the collection, the focus on education, and providing free access to all. In order to serve the wider community better, we are planning for a new RMA building, located in downtown Winter Park across from The Alfond Inn. The new RMA facility (which received final conditional approval from the City of Winter Park in April 2023) is designed by Frederick Fisher & Partners and will serve as a cultural hub and a full-fledged community resource for our residents and a destination for art lovers from near and far. It will comprise 31,000 square feet of exhibition and educational programming space, plus a separate auditorium and events space. The museum is part of a larger Rollins College project: the Innovation Triangle, which also comprises a new building for the Roy E. Crummer Graduate School of Business, and the current expansion of The Alfond Inn.
Strategic Objectives
The new museum facility will allow not only increased programming serving a wider constituency, but also new and enhanced experiences. Our vision for greater and differentiated impact in the community is embedded in our teaching mission and the way we can deploy it once we are off campus. The new facility and location will help accomplish three main strategic objectives:
-
Welcoming a significantly broader audience with the goal to transform casual looking into sustained engagement and life-long learning.
-
Sharing art engagement strategies specific to college art museums with the community at large.
-
Building new models of creativity, innovation, and leadership training through the arts in partnership with the Crummer Graduate School of Business by leveraging our colocation.
