Shifting Perspectives

Shifting Perspectives marks the public debut and celebration of work by students in the Art Time Outreach Program.Generously supported with funding from the Dosal Family Foundation, the program is a partnership established in 2016 between the Cornell Fine Arts Museum and two Winter Park schools: The Paragon School and The Lyman School. Students who participate in Art Time create projects inspired by art in the Museum's permanent collection, through a curriculum developed by Teaching Artists Jacoub Reyes and Kristin Eaves, and Education Coordinator Louise Buyo. The outreach program provides elementary, middle school and high school students with weekly art instruction in a range of materials and techniques. Through art-making, students uncover innovative ideas, explore unfamiliar concepts, and pursue various viewpoints to reach their own new findings.

The exhibition presents a wide variety of media, from video and sound art to sculpture and collaborative artist books. This exhibition is the incredible achievement of nearly a hundred K-12 students who engaged in a yearlong creative exploration - learning to look more closely at the world around them and use artistic expression to discover new meanings in their surroundings. Led by Buyo, Eaves and Reyes, these students challenged themselves to push beyond the norm to find new meaning in the everyday.
