Collection
The collection of the Rollins Museum of Art is typical of a college museum, its idiosyncratic growth defined by the parent institution and by geography. Most donors are Rollins alumni and Winter Park residents, a tightknit group of supporters who recognize the lasting value of their education or appreciate the learning environment created by the presence of the college in the community. Their different aesthetic and cultural preferences and the broad range of media, periods and styles have resulted in a diverse and necessarily eclectic collection, today numbering more than 6,000 works spanning many centuries, from examples of ancient art and artifacts to contemporary art.
The bulk of the collection consists of two-dimensional art (over 700 paintings from the 14th through the 21st centuries, and over 2000 works on paper - prints, drawings, and photographs), as well as three-dimensional objects (sculpture, decorative, and archaeological artifacts). Collection strengths lie in European, American, and contemporary art from the Renaissance to today.
