2020: Action, Freedom, Patriotism
The Cornell Fine Arts Museum will be partnering once again with For Freedoms, a national platform for civic engagement in which art is a vehicle for reflection and action. In the context of an election year, the urgency of considerations around what it means to participate in democracy are particularly important. This exhibition as well as several related displays throughout campus encourage dialogue among students, faculty, staff, and community that transcend partisan lines, and seeks to unify various constituencies in their interest in democratic participation.
The museum will feature important recent acquisitions to its collection, such as the original Norman Rockwell posters Four Freedoms and contemporary re-interpretations of these images by artists Hank Willis Thomas and Emily Shur. Several related events will take place on campus to encourage civic participation and dialogue about current issues. You can learn more about For Freedoms by visiting https://forfreedoms.org/.
