Pre-Health

Discover an exciting world at the intersection of science, technology, and human relationships in Rollins’ pre-health program. Woven throughout the pre-health curriculum is our focus on service, leadership, critical thinking, and improving the lives of others, a unique combination that’s turning out industry leaders in clinical medicine, health administration, dentistry, health policy, and allied care work like occupational therapy.

As a pre-health student, you can major in any discipline as long as you complete the required core science classes, opening multiple avenues to a rewarding career in the health professions. You’ll put your liberal arts learning to work in the world through hands-on experiences like shadowing physicians and serving as research interns for national health networks. Along the way, you’ll be guided at every step by a dedicated advisor who helps you find your niche and make steady progress toward postgraduate and doctoral study.

    You’ll have a dedicated pre-health advisor to help you hit every benchmark toward meeting your goals. Your progress is also overseen by the Rollins Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC), a group of expert faculty who track your progress and act as another connection to internships, volunteer opportunities, and professional development.

    LECOM Early Acceptance

    Thanks to a partnership between Rollins and the Lake Erie College of Medicine (LECOM), undergrads looking to study osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, or dentistry may apply for provisional early acceptance to LECOM’s graduate programs. LECOM is the largest medical school in the U.S. and the nation’s only osteopathic academic health system.

    Expert-Level Experience

    From an intensive shadowing program at one of the country’s largest hospital networks to the opportunity to work alongside faculty on graduate-level research, you’ll have myriad opportunities for hands-on experience. You’ll also leave Rollins with an extensive professional portfolio of your medical-based volunteer work, painting a comprehensive picture of your preparation for grad school.

Beyond the Classroom

Pre-Med Observership Program Help prep patients. Observe a surgery. Make rounds with attending physicians. In partnership with AdventHealth, one of the largest hospital networks in the country, Rollins’ Pre-Med Observership Program puts students on the front lines of medicine. You’ll spend eight hours a day shadowing health-care professionals whose specialties align with your interests and goals.

Real Research You’re in college, but it’s not like you’re curing cancer. Or are you? Through the Rollins Student-Faculty Collaborative Scholarship Program, you just might get the chance. Just ask Phillip McKegg ’18, who spent a summer working with chemistry professor James Patrone to identify inhibitors of an enzyme involved in the metabolism of cancer cells.

Invaluable Internships Rollins’ pre-health curriculum equips students with the kind of critical-thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills needed to succeed in programs like the National Institutes of Health’s Summer Internship Program (SIP). This prestigious internship gives you the opportunity to work side by side with some of the world’s leading scientists in everything from behavioral and social science to mathematical modeling, computational biology, and biostatistics.
