Backpack

Rollins College uses Backpack to receive 529 plan payments electronically. The platform is free to use and fully integrated with our Student Account Services Office, allowing us to be notified as soon as your transfer is initiated.

When payments are submitted through a 529 plan’s website, funds are often sent as paper checks to the College. Paper checks can lead to delays, processing errors, and additional manual handling for both families and college staff. In fact, studies show that nearly one in three families using paper checks for tuition will experience a payment issue at some point.

To ensure a faster and more reliable process, we strongly encourage all families using a 529 plan to submit payments electronically through Backpack.

Important: Requesting Your 529 Withdrawal

Once the holding period ends, you will need to take an additional step to request the withdrawal from your 529 plan provider. Funds will not automatically transfer to your Backpack account.

After the hold period clears:

  • Log in to your 529 plan provider’s website and request a withdrawal to your Backpack account. Your provider may refer to this as “Make a Withdrawal” or “Sell Shares.”
  • Funds typically arrive in your Backpack account within 1–3 business days.
  • Once the funds are received in Backpack and you have created your tuition payment, Backpack will automatically send the payment to Rollins College the same day.

Helpful Tip: You can create your tuition payment in Backpack before your 529 funds arrive. Select “Pay Tuition” from your Backpack Dashboard to notify Rollins that payment is on the way. Once your 529 funds are received, Backpack will automatically process the payment. The payment will post to your student account the next business day.
