What is the Jewish community like at Rollins?
The Jewish community at Rollins is open and welcoming. Jewish students at Rollins come from diverse backgrounds; including interfaith homes, and even non-Jewish homes. And all are welcome at Rollins Hillel! There are also Jewish faculty and staff who are actively involved in Rollins Hillel.
How large is the Jewish population?
Approximately 10 percent of Rollins students are Jewish. The population of the entire student body is 3,240 and the Jewish population is somewhere around 250-300. This is an approximate number, because the students must self-identify as Jewish.
What does Hillel do?
Rollins Hillel is more than just a club- it is a network of relationships. Rollins Hillel is the center for Jewish student life on the Rollins campus. With the commit of students, staff, faculty and administration, we aim to provide unique and meaningful opportunities for almost 180 Jewish students at Rollins. From the moment you step foot on campus, you are a part of our diverse and affirming community. Students are encouraged to explore and celebrate their Jewish identity on their own terms, and Rollins Hillel gives students the resources and support they need as they continue their Jewish journey even after they graduate.
How do I join? Is there a membership fee?
There is no membership fee! To join you just show up and let us know that you are interested! We offer a wide variety of programs from Shabbat to open mic nights so feel free to stop by and bring a friend! If you are ever interested in something that we currently do not offer, let us know and we will work with you to make it happen!
Is there a Jewish Studies program at Rollins?
There is! The Jewish Studies program at Rollins offers a comprehensive interdisciplinary look at Jewish life, religion and culture through a wide variety of liberal arts classes. If you are interested in learning more, please visit the Jewish Studies Program site.
Does Rollins College have a formal relationship with any study abroad programs in Israel?
Yes, Rollins College does! Students can study abroad at Tel Aviv University, where they will take classes with students from around the world and be able to explore one of the most innovative, complex and vibrant cities in the world.
