Academic Information

Latin American Studies: For students at all levels of Spanish with courses in English or Spanish. Learn alongside American and other international students.

Intensive Spanish Language Month (4 Credits) You can add this course that begins four weeks prior to the start of the semester at no additional cost!

Courses with Locals in Multiple Disciplines: Students with 5 or more semesters of college-level Spanish can take regular courses. with Argentine students. Some courses are offered only during specific semesters


Transfer of Credit

Students take 4-6 courses for a total of 16-20 credits. Grades appear on Rollins transcript and are factored into GPA. It can take up to three months for grades to be processed.

Spanish Majors can apply up to three of their courses towards major & Minors can apply up to two.

Students can take major and minor courses abroad (with approval from the academic department) and can also take competencies and rFLA200-level seminars abroad (with approval from the Registrar). This program has Registrar approved rFLA200 seminars and competencies, check them out here!

What It’s Like to Study Abroad in Argentina


Housing & Meals

  • Live in homestay with 2-4 ISA students
  • Located primarily in the Belgrano, Palermo and Recoleta neighborhoods and selected based on safety, atmosphere of the location and personality of the family.
  • Internet access is not common in Argentina, and homestays may NOT have internet access. ISA provides internet access at the ISA office and at host university.
  • The homestay includes all breakfasts and dinners. Students will eat lunch out.

ISA Excursions

  • Día del Campo: Visit a farm near Buenos Aires, learn about the life of an Argentine gaucho and his farming traditions, and taste traditional country cuisine.
  • El Tigre: A popular riverside town of 290,000 people that is most famous for Puerto de los Frutos market. In the past, fruits picked on the islands were traded, but now you can buy much more, including native handicrafts.
  • Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay: Travel by ferry to one of Uruguay's oldest towns and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore museums and historic sites and enjoy beautiful coastal views along the Rio de la Plata.

Activities

  • ISA provides regularly scheduled activities in and around Buenos Aires including visits to different neighborhoods, museums, tango lessons and other activities to introduce students to Argentine culture. 
  • Students have access to student activities and events at the University of Belgrano.

Requirements for Admission

  • Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors
  • Clean record with the Office of Community Standards and good academic and college standing
  • Professional application: materials are submitted on-time, are edited before submission, and are thorough and thoughtful
  • Minimum 2.7 GPA
  • Required advising session (30 minutes). Please schedule an appointment.

Getting There

  • Flight

    • Students arrange flights to Buenos Aires Ezeiza Airport (EZE).
  • Orientation

    • ISA representatives greet students at the airport within designated pick-up times to go to the University of Belgrano and meet host families, who will take students home.
    • ISA staff provides students with on-site orientation during the first few days.
  • Visa

    • US citizens must obtain a student visa for Argentina after entering the country as a tourist.
    • ISA will assist you in registering with the local authority and obtaining a student visa within the first 30 days of the program.

    Most Rollins financial aid and scholarships will apply to the semester abroad.

  • Scholarships

    Scholarships based on financial need are available to off-set costs associated with international airfare and other costs associated with study abroad. Students can apply for scholarships through the Rollins program application. Students can also apply for additional partner scholarships through ISA.

  • Living and Working

    Having a credit card while abroad is very helpful. Argentina has a low cost of living compared to the United States.
