Sogang University is a highly ranked liberal arts institution and is AACSB accredited, which makes it an excellent fit for Rollins students in Business Management and International Business, as well as many other majors. Courses are offered in many fields including literature, history, economics, psychology, sociology, biology, political science and more!

Academic Information

Courses

  • Students are required to take the 3-credit Korean language course “Korean Language and Culture for Beginners” through the Sogang University Korean Language Education Center.
  • Students choose their other courses from the wide array of courses taught in English.

    • 1st Semester = Spring Semester; 2nd Semester = Fall Semester
    • Be sure to check the box “Courses for Exchange Students”
    • To access the syllabus for each course click on the “Inquiry” button listed under the Syllabus column.
  • There is also an intensive 12-credit language course for students who wish to focus on Korean language. However, spaces in this course are typically limited to students with an Asian Studies major or minor.
  • Limited competitive STEM internships are available in labs on campus: students must apply for these internships when they apply to the program.

Transfer of Credit

  • Classes at Sogang are worth 3 credits each. The normal course load is 12-15 credits (4 or 5 courses).
  • Courses on this program appear on the Rollins transcript as transfer credit; the grades are displayed and are factored into the Rollins GPA.
  • It can take up to three months for grades to be processed.
  • Students can take major and minor courses abroad (with approval from the academic department) and can also take competencies and rFLA200-level seminars abroad (with approval from the Registrar).

What It’s Like to Study Abroad in South Korea

Housing & Meals

  • Students will live in Gonzaga Hall, the International Student Dormitory on-campus.
  • Rooms are double occupancy and include a bed, wardrobe, desk, chair, ensuite bathroom with a shower, telephone, AC unit, and internet access.
  • Dorms are separated by gender and the curfew is 10 pm.
  • There is not a meal plan on the program but students have access to the dining hall in the dormitory and there are also a number of eateries on campus with Western and Korean options as well as a Starbucks and a convenience store.

Student Life

  • There are bus stops right outside the campus gates and it is a 10-minute walk to the nearest subway station (Daeheung Station) which makes Sogang a great location from which to explore all the things to see and do in Seoul.
  • Students can also get involved in student organizations and activities at Sogang University, which is one of the best ways to meet Korean students. There are two organizations specifically organized to connect Korean and international students: a formal buddy program and an organization that offers casual social events for students.
  • There is a small gym in the residence hall and larger (though slightly outdated) athletics facilities on campus.
  • Excursions usually include a Seoul walking tour, a trip to the DMZ for a day, and at least one overnight excursion within South Korea. Additionally, CIS organizes one or two cultural/social activities in Seoul each month for students and a final dinner at the end of the semester.

Requirements for Admission

  • Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.
  • Clean record with the Office of Community Standards and good academic and college standing
  • Professional application: materials are submitted on-time, are edited before submission, and are thorough and thoughtful
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA
  • Required advising session (30 minutes) as part of the application process. Visit MyRollins to schedule an advising appointment.

    Having a credit card while abroad is very helpful. Seoul has a lower cost of living than the United States.
