Academic Information


Hong Kong Baptist University

  • Established in 1956, HKBU offers excellent undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the arts, humanities, business, social sciences and sciences.
  • Most courses at HKBU are taught entirely in English.

Courses

  • Students choose from over 25 courses offered in the areas of Business, Communication, Economics, English, Film, Finance, History, Journalism, Marketing, Religion, Science and Sociology.

Transfer of Credit

  • Students typically take 1 course for a total of 3 credits.
  • Students must seek the appropriate departmental approval for all major/minor requirements and approval for General Education Requirements through Student Records.
  • Grades appear on the Rollins transcript and factor into the GPA. It can take up to three months for grades to be processed.

Housing

  • Students are housed in the University's 21-story Undergraduate Halls.
  • Rooms are shared by two students and are air-conditioned (separately controlled in each room).
  • Each student has a bed, closet, desk and shelf, one chair, and one LAN point and WiFi connected to the University's network system.
  • Linens (sheets, blankets and pillows) are provided.
  • Every two rooms share a common restroom and shower facility.
  • There is no telephone in the bedroom, but there are public telephones in the common areas of the Halls.
  • Other facilities include a common lounge (with a small pantry) on each floor, a music/TV room, a multi-purpose room, a table tennis room, a computer room, a study room, and a laundry area.

Meals

  • There is no meal plan at HKBU.
  • Students eat meals at the dining halls and cafeterias on campus and at nearby restaurants.
  • The cost for a meal on campus runs between $2 and $15 depending on the particular dining hall and the size of the meal.
  • Options range from restaurant style to grab-and-go.

Activities and Excursions

Students will have the opportunities to experience and learn about Hong Kong through cultural and leisure activities that are built into the program

Things to Consider

  • Non-Asian students, especially BIPOC, may experience stares and heightened curiosity from locals. Make sure to check the resources available on the International Program's MyRollins "Your Identity Abroad" page.
  • Although there are no legal restrictions on same-sex relationships attitudes toward members of the LGBTQIA+ community vary. Make sure to check the US Department of State LGBTI Travelers page and ILGA Sexual Orientation Laws in the World for more information and the IP "Your Identity Abroad" page in MyRollins.

Requirements for Admission

  • Application Deadline: February 17, 2025
  • Applications open in November
  • Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors
  • Clean record with the Office of Community Standards and good academic and college standing
  • Professional application: materials are submitted on-time, are edited before submission, and are thorough and thoughtful
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • This program requires an advising session (30 mins) as part of the application process.

    • Round-trip airfare from Orlando is estimated at $2,000.
