CHM 102F: Dominican Republic - Water, Sanitation, and Health (WaSH)

Lack of access to potable water and adequate sanitation are responsible for the death of 1.8 million people a year, most of them children under the age of five. Needless to say, improving water quality and sanitation and hygiene practices is a public health imperative. This field study takes you into rural communities in which water projects are being implemented to reduce the incidence of water-related diseases. You learn, firsthand, how to test water to make sure that it is potable and how people are trying to solve the problem at the household level.
