Italy: Summer Field Study
CLS 295F: Italy - Tombs, Temple, and Cathedrals: Christians and Pagans
Italy has always represented a point of contact between members of different cultures…Etruscans, Greeks, Romans, Jews and Early Christians, all of who saw the world through different religious worldviews. This field study will provide students with a survey of religious practices, both Pagan and Christian through visits to archaeological sites, museums, and churches. Students will explore Etruscan tombs, Greek and Roman Temples, Underground Shrines to Mithras, Ancient Synagogues, Early Churches, and a Papal Palace associated with a major Catholic Miracle. The itinerary includes Rome, Pompeii, Orvieto, and Paestum.
