ASA 3XXF: Taiwan - From Rich Cultural Traditions to Postmodern Society

Taiwan, one of the four east Asian tigers, is a modern wonder of economic prosperity, sociopolitical vibrancy, and cultural diversity. After achieving economic modernization, Taiwan made a successful transition into a functioning democracy. What is Taiwan like in the 21st Century? Join us for a 10-day trip to witness and experience Taiwan’s economic, sociopolitical dynamism as well as its spectacular natural and cultural landscape. We will visit historical and modern sites, meet people from different walks of life, and converse with college students.

  • Course Requirements: Research on Taiwan before departure, journal keeping during trip, and reflection paper after trip
  • Anticipated Number of Students: 14 - 20
  • Estimated Program Fee: $2,990
  • Program Fee Includes: Tuition, housing, most meals/food, onsite activities, onsite transportation, tour guides
  • Estimated Additional Costs: Roundtrip airfare to/from Orlando International Airport (MCO) $1,300, Passport $165, personal expenses $350, some meals $300, federal loan fees $0, books/course materials $0, and professional licensure/certification $0.
  • Visa: Not required for U.S. citizens
